General Amar Singh was a World War I veteran, one of the first Indian officers commissioned in the British Indian Army, and a prolific diarist. His English daily diary, maintained from 1898 until his death in 1942, provides valuable insights into a bygone era. He was also a scholar who amassed a personal library of over 3,000 books, showcasing his intellectual pursuits alongside his military career.
The Kanota Archive represents seven generations of family heritage, featuring artifacts from the courts of Jaipur and beyond. The Kanota Thakurs, known for their service in royal courts, curated artifacts that highlight Rajasthan’s cultural history and the British colonial era. Key exhibits include miniature paintings, Persian-script maps, textiles, and General Amar Singh’s personal items like diaries, photo albums, and World War I memorabilia.
The museum offers a glimpse into the Rajputana era through its curated galleries. Highlights include ceremonial arms and armor from Rajputana, Mughal, British, and German origins, as well as administrative records, land ledgers, and hunting equipment. Visitors can explore these unique artifacts while delving into the history, art, and traditions of Rajasthan, making it a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts.
